Oculus’ new standalone VR headset is cheaper than all the Windows Mixed Reality headsets

Facebook, the parent company of Oculus, today announced a new virtual reality headset at Oculus Connect. The company’s upcoming Oculus Go headset costs $199, which is less than all of the Windows Mixed Reality headsets that are launching next week.

The Oculus Go is a standalone and wireless virtual reality headset which the company hopes will make VR accessible to more people. The headset doesn’t require any PC or a phone, which is also a huge plus. Facebook isn’t saying a lot about its upcoming Oculus Go headset, but at $199, you probably won’t get the highest quality virtual reality experience on the headset. Additionally, the Go will not support motion controllers like the Windows Mixed Reality headsets, so the VR experience could be quite limited. The device has a 2560×1440 screen which is supposed to offer “superb visual clarity.”

Facebook is expected to launch the Oculus Go next year, an exact release date is yet to be announced.
