The number of monthly active Facebook users of the integrated Facebook functionality in Windows Phone has just crossed 1.5 million. It took 250 days for the number of FB users to increase from 0.5 million to 1 million, and 109 days to add another half a million users. From ratios previously calculated this represents between 9.5 and 10.5 actual Windows Phone users in the wild, which lines up well with data from Gartner, which estimated sales to consumers as 0.5 million in Q4 2010, 1.7 million in Q1, Q2 and Q3 2011 and 2.7 million in Q4 2011, for a total of 8.3 million till the end of last year. Sales for Q1 2012 can therefore now be estimated to be between 2.5 and 3 million.
While there is a clear acceleration evident with Nokia on board, we are not yet seeing the massive growth which we will need to meet the expectations of analysts of 20-30 million handsets sold for the whole of 2012. However with the expansion into markets like China and of course the Nokia’s attempt at the US market still needing to come to fruition it is still too early to make any solid predictions.
Thanks JP for the tip.
