Marketing site The Drum reports Nokia’s cheeky tweet calling out the Apple iPhone 5C as a clear copy of Nokia’s colourful Lumia range managed to achieve a new record for a brand message, being retweeted more than 38,000 times, and no doubt reaching millions of twitter users.
Oliver Snoddy, Twitter’s head of planning, told a conference last week: "This tweet got more retweets than Oreo’s ‘Dunk in the dark’ tweet from the Super Bowl."
That tweeted earned only 16,000 retweets but became one of the most talked about marketing message of the Superbowl, for nearly no marketing outlay.
Hopefully Nokia will have achieved a similar result, making it clear that despite Apple’s reputation, in this case it is clearly a follower rather than a leader.
Thanks Aaron for the tip.
