Nokia plans to release Chinese TD-SCDMA Windows Phones

imageTD-SCDMA is China’s home-grown 3G standard. Colin Giles, executive vice-president of Nokia Corp, has expressed their commitment to supporting this technology at a news briefing in Beijing, and promised to release Windows Phones using the technology in the near future.

The news briefing was at the launch of China Mobile’s dedicated TD-SCDMA app store.  China Mobile is the biggest carrier by number of subscribers in the world, with close to 600 million subscribers, and currently has 12 million TD-SCDMA subscribers.

China is one of Nokia’s biggest markets, but even there they are facing challenges both at the low end from white box phone OEMs and on the high end from Android smartphones.
