Last year, Nokia first announced their high-end Android device, the Nokia 8. Even though it had flagship specs, it was not well received among the consumers because of the availability of better alternatives from Samsung and others. This year at MWC 2018, Nokia today announced their new flagship device, the new Nokia 8 Sirocco.
Nokia claims that the design of this device is inspired by the rich design heritage of Nokia phones, but I disagree with them as it looks inspired more from Samsung’s flagship device. The Nokia 8 Sirocco’s curved glass finish envelops a precision-crafted stainless-steel frame to deliver a fusion of strength and beauty. It measures just 2mm thin at the edge and it combines a curved edge-to-edge pOLED 2K 5.5-inch display with smaller bezels and moulded body curves to create an ultra-compact profile.
Nokia brand is known for its endurance and strong build quality and this phone is no exception. Its stainless steel frame is 2.5 times stronger than 6000 series aluminium, and its 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is robust enough to endure life’s everyday knocks. The device will feel more comfortable in your hand thanks to the improved grip given by the dual diamond-polished stainless steel frame.
Just like the Nokia 8, the Nokia 8 Sirocco’s dual rear sensors with ZEISS optics that combine an ultra-sensitive, wide angle primary camera for impressive low-light performance and a secondary 13MP sensor with 2x optical zoom. And with Pro Camera mode (remember Nokia Camera app on Lumia devices?) you get full manual control over every picture you take. Nokia spatial audio utilizes three integrated microphones to provide high dynamic range with 24-bit audio and the ability to record at up to 132 decibels. This means you can capture crystal clear, distortion free audio on the Nokia 8 Sirocco in even the loudest of places.
Nokia 8 Sirocco will ship with Android Oreo 8.0 and since its an Android One device, you will be able to get latest Android updates from Google soon.
One disappointing thing about this device is its processor as Nokia has decided to go with last year’s Snapdragon 835 processor. But the upgraded 6GB of RAM along with 128GB of storage should offer the needed performance expected from this device.
Nokia 8 Sirocco will be available for €749 from April this year.
Note: Along with this flagship, Nokia also announced 4 other mobile devices today. Learn about them here.
