While the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 consoles have seen record-breaking preorders, the lineup of next-gen tech may not be as popular as the Nintendo Switch this upcoming holiday season.
NPD Group analyst Matt Piscatella reported that the Nintendo Switch is priming up to outsell all three next-gen consoles next month, despite the fact that all of the next-gen machines are likely to sell out.
“PlayStation and Xbox Series consoles should be among the hottest holiday gifting items of 2020. Units will be tough to find with continued strong demand into 2021,” Piscatella wrote online.
“Switch will also be a hot holiday gifting item with more households picking up multiple Switch consoles in the fourth quarter. The lack of available inventory of new PlayStations and Xbox systems will leave Switch as an appealing available option (although supply may still be difficult to find).”
The lack of next-gen units that have been allocated to some retailers are causing situations such as PlayStation 5 consoles not shipping to some preorder customers until next year. With Nintendo having a strong production line across the year, there should be plenty of consoles to pick up.
