Google has introduced an improved panorama mode with the launch of the Pixel 9. This update brings a simpler interface and delivers sharper, higher-quality panorama images. It works well in both daylight and low-light conditions.

Photographer Tristan Greszko, who was part of the Pixel development team, assisted in demonstrating the feature. He hiked to a mountaintop in the Tetons to capture demo images using a Pixel 9 Pro. Tristan, who specializes in video and image quality, also contributed to improving the panorama experience on Pixel.

Previously, panorama mode relied on video capture, which limited the image quality. Tristan proposed using Pixel’s HDR+ photo pipeline instead. This method allows the camera to stack multiple photos together. As a result, the final image contains more detail and better lighting.

The new system reduces common panorama issues like jagged edges and misaligned frames. For best results, users should rotate the camera itself, not their whole body. Staying still, especially in low light, helps improve image clarity. Pixel also handles focus and exposure automatically, so users don’t need to tap the screen.

Google’s new panorama mode makes it easier for users to explore creative shots. They can even try full 360-degree or vertical panoramas for unique perspectives.
