At E3 2017 Microsoft shocked many by announcing a feature many thought would never happen; original Xbox backward compatibility.
The program is not expected to be as extensive as Xbox 360 backward compatibility with a much smaller library of games, but many are still eager to see if their favourite classics makes its way to Xbox One.
So far, only two games have been confirmed for the program: Crimson Skies and Fuzion Frenzy, but today perennial Microsoft leaker Walkingcat posted a banner with what he claims to be a list of 12 new titles coming to Xbox backward compatibility.
The list includes:
- Bloodrayne 2
- Crimson Skies
- Dead to Rights
- Fusion Frenzy
- Grabbed by the Ghoulies
- Neowave: The King of Fighters
- Ninja Gaiden Black
- Prince of Persia
- Red Faction II
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Another list of 24 mostly different titles had earlier leaked via GameStop.
Microsoft has earlier confirmed that original Xbox backward compatibility will arrive before the end of 2017, and said that there are still details about how it will work on Xbox One X that hasn’t been revealed yet.
“There’s some stuff we’re going to talk about in that space in terms of how compatibility is going to work on [Xbox One] X specifically that I think people will find pretty interesting,” Phil Spencer said.
Interestingly emulating the original Xbox is easier than the Xbox 360, because it was running on an X86 chip, vs the PowerPC architecture of the Xbox 360, suggesting we may end up with many more OG Xbox titles than we currently expect.
