Netflix was spotted requesting access o a devices’ physical activity sensors. This feature allows Android phones to feed data to apps like Google Fit and track their movement and steps. For a service like Netflix, it didn’t make any sense.

Upon being quizzed, Netflix told The Next Web the following:

We are continually testing ways to give our members a better experience. This was part of a test to see how we can improve video playback quality when a member is on the go. Only some accounts are in the test, and we don’t currently have plans to roll it out.

It’s not really cleary how having physical activity sensors on would enable them to deliver a better experience, and Netflix doesn’t explain either. If you do see this permission, you can probably turn it off because let’s face it, Netflix doesn’t really need to know you take 10KM runs to deliver you new OITB episodes.
