Some time back we reported that Samsung might be planning to release a foldable device soon but now Business Korea reports the company might be planning a launch next year. The actual launch dates are unknown but Samsung’s mobile division chief DJ Koh said they aim for a launch next year.
The report also disclosed some specs of the device which includes a curvature of 1.0R and will allow the device to be folded like a piece of paper. The materials used in the device are still unclear but we assume that Samsung might have found an optimum material for the device.
There have been many rumors in the past from different companies working on a foldable smartphone but no one has succeeded till now. If Samsung gets this right, they might be the first company to launch a foldable smartphone. On the other hand, Apple is also rumored to partner with LG to develop a foldable device but no details have been known of the project.
Samsung opening claiming to launch a foldable device might just have set an early trend for 2018 like the Dual camera in 2017. While the final details are still unknown, it will be great to have foldable phones in the coming year.
