Monster Energy is running a promotion for Xbox’s Halo Infinite, a game that currently doesn’t have a release date. Instead of providing bonuses for Halo Infinite, Monster will be giving out free copies of Halo 5 instead.

The US-only promotion was initially set to give players those all-important Double-XP boosts for each can of Monster they can purchase and give a cheeky chug-a-lug.

Monster’s Halo Infinite promotion also included a scannable Snapchat scapcode that would unlock a Halo Infinite filter and give players the chance to earn some in-game cosmetics. Just the way Halo was always meant to be.

Now, customers of the energy drink will be able to grab themselves a free copy of Halo 5: Guardians so they can catch up on the narrative before the release of Halo Infinite, whenever that might be. The Halo 5 download codes are restricted to one per account that customers have to create here.

Halo Infinite’s development struggles have certainly impacted a lot. Initially planned as the flagship launch title for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the cross-gen shooter is seeing veterans return to help the title’s final months of polish.

While many have blamed the cross-gen nature of Infinite’s release for its underwhelming visuals, we’ve reported that complex engine changes were done for the game last year to meet performance targets across its breath of systems.
