Mobile World Congress 2010 – the media centre

So you were wondering how is life of a reporter here in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress 2010? Well, this story is not related to Windows Phone but it may be of interest to you, particularly if you are pondering to get press accreditation and come here to Barcelona next year.

The Media Centre (formerly known as Press Centre) is located in Hall 2 at the top, so you have to go there with moving stairs to the second level:

Note that “centre” is spelled not “center” but “centre”. It’s so because this congress is organized by Brits and also in reception of the media centre Brits are sitting.

Unlike previous years, there is no area with press material in paper or CD form. Everything is online under .

There is area with meeting rooms so if you arrange meeting with some company and you would like to have quiet room, you can do it:

Most bigger companies have their own meeting rooms but for small companies that you interview, these meeting rooms may come in handy.

Then you would like to go to room with computers and Internet/power sockets. However before you enter this room there is such recreational area where you can drink coffee or tea for free. No free meals though here. If you are lucky you might find free cookies here though:

The main room where you can use existing computers (desktops, with memory card slots even!) or you can connect your notebook via Ethernet or WiFi looks like this:

For some reason Internet over Ethernet is slow and using WiFi in your notebook is recommended. For that at reception of Media Centre you get individually unique username and password. WiFi was fast usually but sometimes at the end of the day it was slower. Usually fast downloads and uploads of range 50 KB/s to 80 KB/s.

Note: this room with computers where you could connect your notebook was very hot, so hot like India in middle of summer, so you should take t-shirt with you not to be sweating like pig in sauna.

All in all Media Centre was very well organized and Internet connection was reasonable. There are also printers and other amenities. Good work MWC organizers!
