As we have seen in recent Windows Mobile 6.5 presentations by Microsoft, the company has as of yet no plans to release new finger-friendly controls to ease the creation of such applications by developers. Microsoft has been recommending third party solutions such as the ones by Resco.
Another contender in this field is Mirabytes’s Touch Control Suite, which we have written about before. The software allows developers to write modern finger-friendly applications while still using managed code.
Mirabyte has just released an updated version of the software, version 1.5. The core component of Touch Controls Suite is TouchListBox, a flexible multipurpose list control that can be used for any kind of menus, lists or item viewers. New in version 1.5 however are a TouchPictureBox, a picture box which supports smooth zooming and panning, TouchPictureButton, a button that is easily skinned, ButtonBar, a control for creating large, finger-friendly menu buttons, DoubleBufferdLabel which is perfect for flicker-free rapidly updating information.
A free trial version of Touch Controls Suite which includes a fully programmable version of Touch Controls Suite as well as both simple and complex demo applications in C# and VB.NET is available.
The software is only costs 49.95 EUR and is available on the mirabyte Website.
