Microsoft’s website dedicated to fighting US surveillance gets hacked

A Microsoft website has been hacked recently – the company’s official website dedicated to fighting US surveillance has been hacked. As it seems like, the website is powered by popular blogging platform, WordPress. However, the site is running a very old version of WordPress – WordPress 4.0.5, which is pretty old (latest version is 4.2.2) and not secure at all.

The website’s homepage displayed links to casino websites as you can see on the screenshot below:

It is worth mentioning that the site has been modified and the links are no longer shown on the homepage. However, one of the sitemaps of the website is displaying a casino website.

As expected, it isn’t clear who hacked the website. However, it could be a hacker who was able to exploit WordPress.
