Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 was a device which – like the Surface Pros before it – was built around the idea that a device could support Pen, and Ink as well as the traditional touch and keyboard input methods. With Microsoft’s latest Surface SKU, the firm seems to have moved away from that for users buying the base Surface Model.
On the US Microsoft store, the firm is now selling the Core M3 Surface sans pen as the base model Surface Pro – with no option to spring for a model with a bundled pen. While Microsoft previously introduced a pen-less Surface Pro 4 SKU in the past month, it was still possible to purchase the Core M3 sporting model with a pen.
Currently that variant is no longer listed for sale in the USA and listed as out of stock in the UK Microsoft Store. At the moment, if you want a Surface Pro with a Pen, you’re better off purchasing one of the higher end models, or grabbing the lower-end model and adding the extra cost of the pen as a separate purchase.
Barring that, you’ll likely get a better deal from other online dealers like Amazon, Argos or even eBay.
Microsoft is expected to announce a new Surface Pro 5 in the coming weeks or months which may account for the current shortage, though the firm has not yet made an official announcement of an event indicating such.
Regardless, you can purchase the Surface Pro 4 from Microsoft’s Store here should you still want to.
