Microsoft’s new AccountGuard service protects Microsoft accounts involved in political campaigns

These days, cybersecurity has become a critical concern for political campaigns, elections authorities, journalists, and more. In order to protect the Microsoft accounts involved in participating US campaigns, political committees, campaign tech vendors, and their staff, Microsoft is now offering a service called AccountGuard which offers additional security and threat monitoring.

Microsoft AccountGuard protected accounts will be regularly monitored for cyber threats and provided with protection from phishing emails, malware attachments, and suspicious logins. Microsoft will notify the account holder if they detect a cyber incident and provide remediation support through. Microsoft will also offer best-practice security guidance and work with account holders to proactively prevent such incidents.

Users from the following organizations are eligible to participate in Microsoft AccountGuard service:

  • US-based political campaigns
  • US-based political committees
  • Select campaign technology vendors
  • Select individuals may also participate, if invited by eligible campaigns and affiliated organizations
