Microsoft Xbox Division In EMEA Saw A 75% Reduction In Workforce As Part Of The Layoffs

As you all know, there are about 5000 Microsoft employees losing their job as part of the reorganization and restructuring announced by CEO Satya Nadella. We recently reported that the Operating System’s group was hit hard by this layoffs as they are changing the functional structure itself by reducing testers. We already know that Xbox Entertainment Studios is going to closed as part of this layoffs. Apart from this, MCV reported that as many as 75% of full time Xbox EMEA roles were being cut and the Xbox UK team has also been reduced by 10%. Microsoft is also completely reducing the contract workers. Microsoft provided the following statement and reassured that Xbox One launch won’t be affected by these changes.

“We eliminated a number of EMEA roles in the UK to gain efficiencies, We remain very committed to the market and will continue to support our local development teams. We believe that the UK has exceptional games industry talent and we’ll continue to focus on game creation in the through Microsoft Studios like Rare, Lionhead Studios, Lift London and Soho Productions. Also, Europe continues to be an important market for Xbox, and we’re excited to launch Xbox One to fans in 13 mainland European markets in September.”
