Coming in June, popular entertainment apps including Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO GO, YouTube, Twitch, ESPN, NFL, Xbox Music, and experiences such as Internet Explorer, Skype, OneDrive, OneGuide, and Upload Studio for Xbox One and Xbox 360 will be available to everyone with an Xbox Live account—whether or not you have an Xbox Live Gold membership. Microsoft announced this changes yesterday along with the announcement about new low powered Xbox One SKU that starts at $399 without Kinect. Because of this announcement, many non-gamers may want to cancel their Xbox Live Gold subscription. Microsoft today announced that starting in June, customers can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any unused remaining days between the date of cancellation and the date their paid Gold membership ends.
Will I be able to cancel my Gold membership?
Yes. Once the Xbox One and Xbox 360 system updates become available in June, Xbox Live Gold members who purchased a paid membership before that day can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any unused remaining days between the date of cancellation and the date their paid Gold membership ends. Cancellation and pro-rata refund requests must be made by August 31, 2014 and require six to eight weeks for processing. Free or trial Gold memberships are not eligible for a refund.
