Microsoft’s head of Consumer Marketing for Windows Phone, Oded Ran, has been speaking to journalists and developers in UK, touting the advantages the tie-up between Xbox Live and Windows Phone 7 would bring.
Ran confirmed that Microsoft was actively talking to all Arcade Live publishers to help bring them to the new phone OS in time for launch later this year.
"There are four million Xboxes in the UK compared to 2.5 million iPhones; we’re now working with developers who know how to make games, and they’re able to port Xbox Arcade games to mobile phones easily," said Ran.
"Just four lines of code changed an Xbox Live Arcade game to a Windows Phone 7 game in a recent publisher test", he continued.
Of course Xbox Live Arcade games are not the same as actual Xbox Games.
"Of course we’re not talking about bringing Halo 3 to your mobile phone – users want a 42-inch LCD TV and surround sound to play games like that – but our XNA framework is a big part [of the forthcoming Windows Phone 7 launch devices]."
With around 300 Xbox Live Arcade games currently available, including titles like Duke Nukem 3D, Sensible World of Soccer, Doom, Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog, and many more, Windows Phone 7 users can still expect a pretty decent selection at launch day.
