Microsoft to switch to charging for apps in Yuan in China

In what is likely a long overdue change, Microsoft has sent an email to Chinese developers notifying them that Microsoft will be switching from charging for apps in Dollar to charging for them in Chinese Yan (CNY).

Microsoft has not revealed the exchange rate that will be used or when exactly the change will be implemented, but it will not require any work on the part of developers.

The change follows the same by Apple in recent weeks, and suggests Chinese government action may be behind the move. Either way however it is sure to improve the experience of Chinese Windows Phone users and will hopefully hit Marketplace shortly.
