Microsoft Surface Devices Did Not Fail During NFL Game

Microsoft Surface is the official tablet partner of NFL. All the NFL teams are now using Surface devices to analyze their games on the sidelines instead of using paper. During the AFC championship game Sunday between the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots, Surface tablets suddenly stopped working for the Patriots.

“They’re having some trouble with their Microsoft Surface tablets,” CBS’ sideline reporter Evan Washburn reported during the game. “On the last defensive possession the Patriots’ coaches did not have access to those tablets to show pictures to their players. NFL officials have been working at it. Some of those tablets are back in use, but not all of them. A lot of frustration that they didn’t have them on that last possession.”

Without knowing the actual reason of the failure, Apple fanboy sites started reporting that Surface tablets failed during the NFL game. After a point, many large media outlets also started reporting the same causing damage to the Surface brand. By the time Microsoft responded to the issue, the damage was already done. Actually, the Surface devices were working as usual. Due to the network connectivity failure, Patriot team members were unable to access the files from the server. The company issued a statement saying:

Our team on the field confirmed the issue was not related to the tablets themselves but rather an issue with the network. We worked with our partners who manage the network to ensure the issue was resolved quickly.
