Microsoft has updated the Microsoft Health app on Windows and Android, blessing the app with a new name. The app is now called the Microsoft Band app, which of course makes a lot of sense for an app designed to interface with the Microsoft Band fitness band.

There is also a suggestion that Microsoft wants to disassociate the Microsoft Health service with the Microsoft Band app, which may be on its way out if Microsoft does indeed cease production of the Microsoft Band as has been rumoured.

Presumably Microsoft could then re-introduce a new Microsoft Health app which can interface with a number of 3rd party fitness trackers and deliver Microsoft’s data-driven health and fitness advice to the costumers of a variety of OEMs.

The update also brings new firmware for the Microsoft Band 2, though no changelog as yet.

The app update also brings some bug fixes and can be found in the Play Store here and Windows Store below. Presumably an update for the iOS app will follow in short order.
