Microsoft promise Iris-reading devices in the next 12 months

Iris reading

In a presentation on Microsoft’s Windows Hello technology, which provides biometric authentication, Microsoft has revealed “a selection of devices” which support Iris scanning will be arriving within the next 12 months.

The item is significant due to rumours that the Lumia 940 flagship will support this technology with a built-in Iris reader.

We therefore suggest readers start setting their timers, with a maximum of only 12 months to hold your breath Smile

Other titbits from the presentation is that Microsoft’s technology has a 1/100,000 false positive rate and a 2-4/100 false negative rate, and that the technology achieved this precision through machine learning.

Windows 10 PCs and laptops with fingerprint readers will support Windows Hello from release, while face-scanning technologies are already in the market also.
