A pretty long time ago Microsoft unveiled their vision of productivity in the future, which included the above detachable dual screen phone.

Now Microsoft has filed a patent application for the technology, which would feature two screens which would work independently of each other, or could combine (physically too, via “magnetic attraction”) when needed. Each part would have a touchscreen, and while combined would function as your run of the mill smartphone.

The two parts can however also able to be separated, but are still able to communicate and sense the position of the other.

Microsoft envisions is as a way to enable multi-tasking with two actual display surfaces, which would allow drag and drop for example.

The idea is obviously still far from market, but one can easily envision the same technology synchronizing two regular phones to allow seamless simultaneous use.
