Microsoft makes PEGI Express available for free to WP7 Marketplace developers

imageMore and more countries are demanding games maturity ratings, even for mobile games.  Windows Phone 7.5 also now supports parental controls.  To support the system Microsoft has reached an agreement to implement PEGI games ratings for Windows Phone 7 games, using PEGI Express.

PEGI S.A. delivers a pan European age rating system for video games, and PEGI Express is speci?cally designed for mobile platforms, and facilitates rapid age classification, with a post-release auditing system which can fix any incorrectly classified apps. Microsoft will be carrying the fee for this audit.

“PEGI continues to play a crucial role in the interactive entertainment sector,” said Chris Lewis, VP IEB, Microsoft EMEA. “As a founding member of PEGI, Microsoft continues its strong commitment to safe entertainment, by working together with PEGI to help developers rate their games quickly and e?ectively.”

Developers will be able to access the PEGI Express tool directly through the Windows Phone platform as an integral part of the app submission process.

Hopefully this means we can finally get some good shooting games, features some actual red blood, on Windows Phone 7 also.
