Microsoft Office menu bar changes are often a source of controversy, so readers may appreciate a heads-up that Microsoft is testing a new addition to their popular Office suite.

According to a tweet by Florian B, Microsoft is Microsoft internally testing a new banner for Office apps that will display information and interact with the user.

Called Home Place Banner, the surface at the top of the Home screen of the Office apps would allow messages and other interactive content to be “service delivered” to end users without having to wait for new builds.

At present, it is not clear if the panel will become available to companies and what exactly they will use it for, but it seems clear we can look forward to an Office Home page where we spend more than a fraction of a second on in the future.
