Microsoft raised increased prices on Xbox consoles and accessories due to “global economic conditions and rising development costs.
As of this week, the Xbox Series S is being offered at $379.99 in the U.S. which is $80 more than its original price of $299.99 at the launch of 2020. On top of that, the price of the Xbox Series X has increased to $599.99, a $100 increase from its former $499.99 price point.

Microsoft acknowledged such transitions can be painful for consumers.Though the company did not explicitly attribute the price increases to tariffs, it named market trends and increased development costs. The price increase applies to both console units as well as accessories such as the wireless controller and headset, in the U.S. and Canada. Plus, Microsoft intends to increase the price of its first-party games to $79.99 this holiday season.
The price increases follow newly escalated tariffs and additional trade hostilities that have already affected other gaming companies. Last month, for instance, Sony increased prices for the PlayStation 5 in several markets. Nintendo’s new Switch 2 is similarly affected by a price hike, also owing to new import taxes.
While the gaming industry faces uncertainty due to these economic factors, Microsoft recently posted strong earnings, earning $70.07 billion in revenue for the January-March quarter
