Microsoft France leak allegedly reveals better-than-expected Xbox One sales figures

Microsoft France has a “House of Fans” event where they discuss topics such as games and hardware. Since the company is planning on launching the Xbox One X in November, Microsoft France allegedly sent out a newsletter which detailed the company’s gaming products all the way back to the original Xbox. According to the infographic, the original Xbox sold 24.6 million consoles around the world and the best-selling game was Halo 2 at around 8.5 million copies sold. The division’s fortunes turned when they released the Xbox 360.
The Xbox 360 sold around 85.5 million units and its best-selling game was Kinect Adventures at almost 22 million. The original Kinect camera sold 24 million units. The peripheral initially came bundled with the game but Microsoft changed that later. Xbox 360 managed to become a sensation because of the fact that it was easy to code for and less expensive than the PlayStation 3. Plus, games looked and ran better on Xbox 360. Remember the Bayonetta scandal and Sony?
Well, now let’s talk about the Xbox One. Microsoft initially dropped the ball when revealing the console and their decision to bundle it with Kinect cost them a lot of sales. According to the newsletter, the Xbox One has sold 36.2 million units to date. The console’s best-selling game to date is Call of Duty: Black Ops II which stands at 11.4 million. While we don’t know when Microsoft France started working on the infographic, it probably still has recent figures which are maybe 3 months old given Microsoft’s earnings call and other internal evaluations. There’s just no way to be sure. Either ways, 36.2 million is a healthy number and a lot more than many were estimating.
While there’s no way to verify these figures, the newsletter does appear to be genuine. We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment and we’ll update the story if we receive a response. Despite this data, we knew that the Xbox division was thriving and that it generated more revenue than even Windows. This just affirms it.
