Microsoft Files Trademark Application For 'Battletoads', May Be Reviving The Series For Xbox One

BattleToads Xbox Microsoft

Microsoft has recently filed a new trademark application for Battletoads. Microsoft might be planning to revive the series for Xbox One.

The trademark application, spotted by NeoGAF, was filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) on November 5. It covers “game software” and “online video games.”

Battletoads is a video game media franchise by Rare that began with the original beat ’em up game Battletoads in 1991. Starring three anthropomorphic toads named after skin conditions, Rash, Zitz, and Pimple, the series was created to rival the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games. The series as a whole has been quite popular and at its apex spawned an animated television pilot.

Rare studios is now part of Microsoft. Microsoft didn’t confirm that Battletoads is coming to Xbox One, instead they sent a typical PR response which you can read below,

“Microsoft often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment.”
