Microsoft explains Cortana’s fitness tracking feature

Cortana recently introduced a new feature in which she offered to track your work-out routine.  Now in a blog post Microsoft offered more detail on how the feature works.

Cortana recognizes that you are regularly working out if you name a regular visited place place a fitness-related name such as “gym” or “swimming club”.

This triggers Cortana to ask you if you want her to track your work outs. It will then learn your pattern of work-outs (e.g. which days you go) and in your daily glance alert you that “It’s a work-out day.” Clicking on this will take you to the Health & Fitness app, where you can find different workouts to try.

If you happen to miss your work-out day Cortana will try and keep you on track by offering to block a period on another day for a work-out.

With features like these the Cortana team are working to make their digital assistant more intimate and useful, and we look forward to seeing more from the team soon.
