Microsoft recently killed a couple of Lumia camera apps, including Lumia Storyteller, Lumia Beamer, Photobeamer, and Lumia Refocus. Obviously, this was a big blow for Windows Phone users — especially Lumia owners as the apps offered some unique and impressive features. Now, it looks like Microsoft could be bringing the features of the apps back to the Photos app on Windows 10 — as add-ins.
Recently, the software giant quietly renamed the Lumia Moments app as Photos Add-ins, suggesting that they could be bringing back the features of Lumia Storyteller, Lumia Beamer, Photobeamer, and Lumia Refocus as add-ins for the Photos app.
So what are these Photos Add-ins? Basically, these are just plug-ins for the Photos app which will allow you to add effects and other editing features to the Photos app. Microsft says:
Add great new effects and features to the Microsoft Photos app with this handy plug-in. With Microsoft Photos plug-in, you can save the perfect photo from your videos, add a strobe effect to your photos to show action or add blur to emphasise motion.
If Microsoft brings back the recently discontinued apps, this will be a pretty good news as the Photos app isn’t really feature-packed right now in Windows 10. We’re assuming Microsoft will also allow third-party developers to make third-party plug-ins for the Photos app, which will also be a great idea. For now, we can’t confirm if Microsoft will be bringing the discontinued apps — but we can only hope.
