Both Microsoft and Nokia jumped on the social networking bandwagon today, with unfortunately differing levels of success.
Microsoft’s image of a star-laden background with the outlined words May the Fourth be with you is perfectly fine, but the accompanying text of the tweet “Windows phone Trekkies: we hope you’re celebrating in style!” could not be more wrong – if there is one thing Star Wars fans hate worst is being associated with Star Trek fans.
Nokia on the other hand decided to use the opportunity to promote a feature of the Lumia photo software, long exposures to do light drawings, and produced a number of great light sabre and Jedi-inspired light drawing pictures.
The minor episode underlines why we are rather glad Nokia’s social marketing team came with the handset division purchase, as Microsoft’s own team clearly has a lot of catching up to do.
