Microsoft announces support for Apple FairPlay and 360 live video streaming in Azure Media Services

Today at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2016 in Las Vegas, Microsoft is making no.of significant announcements related to Azure Media Services. First, they will be showcasing the recently revealed Media Analytics suite. Also, they are announcing support for Apple FairPlay and 360° video streaming, as well as MPAA and FACT certifications.

Apple FairPlay allows broadcasters to securely stream premium content using the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) protocol. By supporting FairPlay natively in Azure Media Services, Microsoft enable broadcasters  to easily encrypt video, exchange keys, and securely play back content optimally on iOS, Apple TV, and OS X devices.

Microsoft also announced the new Video Editor Plugin for Azure Media Player, a client tool designed to aid in the creation of subclips and dynamic manifests for Azure Media Services. This plugin improves on the workflow by giving an embeddable interface for video clip creation, thumbnail selection, and provides additional flexibility in integration.

Microsoft is also announcing their partnership with Videostitch to enable content creators to create their own 360 live video streams from Azure Media Services.

Finally, Azure Media Services recently got the additional achievement of Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) certification, which provides an additional level of security assurance to premium content owners who wish to leverage the Azure cloud platform.
