Microsoft aims to eventually make Cortana an autonomous digital agent

Microsoft posted an interview with Cortana head Marcus Ash in which he revealed the company had some pretty big ambitions for the digital assistant.

Marcus revealed that their eventual goal was to make Cortana a trusted autonomous digital agent, able to do things for you and on your behalf without constant intervention or supervision.

An example of this, not given by Microsoft, would be telling Cortana to book you the cheapest flight tickets to New York, and having her knowing when you are planning to travel, and knowing your preferences such as class, meals etc, and how you wish to pay.

These ideas are all part of Artificial Intelligence research, and it is good to see Microsoft’s ambitions reaching so high.
