Microsoft accused of stealing the “Really” ad ideas

The jury is still out on how effective Microsoft’s “Really” ads were, but they were certainly iconic.

Not everyone however think they are very original.  A company called Cellrderm in fact found them very familiar, and believes they were copied from its own idea – an addiction product for the cellphone obsessed.

The company is suing Microsoft in Florida district court for any profits it made as well as damages for infringing its copyright.

They claim they had sent Cease and Desist letters to Microsoft and its ad agency Crispin Porter + Boguskey as early as 20 January 2011 and were ignored by both.

The company is now asking for a jury trial to settle the matter.

Microsoft’s ads are clearly much more polished than Cellrderm’s, but there certainly seem to be some connection.
