Metro-style Windows Live Movie Maker, Live Writer and other Live Essentials apps coming

When Microsoft demonstrated Windows 8 at BUILD they showed some small apps, but the larger Windows Live Essential apps, like Windows Live Movie Maker and Live Writer was conspicuously missing.

It turns out there is a reason why – the apps have not been created yet, but at least this job posting, noticed by LiveSide.net, shows that Microsoft is intending to develop Metro style Live Essentials apps.

We are seeking a great developer who will help build the next generation of touch-oriented photo/video experiences for consumers. You will be working with an experienced group of developers with a successful track record of building new experiences such as those found in Photo Gallery, Movie Maker and Writer. You will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of the technical direction for the team.

We look forward to seeing what a Metro version of Live Writer, an app we use constantly each day, looks like in Metro, but for us at least it means we can get work done using the Immersive UI after all.

You will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of the technical direction for the team.

Candidates must have a proven track record of shipping applications through multiple product cycles, must have experience successfully solving complex user interface problems, and must have solid fundamental computer science skills. Expertise with Trident/MSHTML, HTML5, and JavaScript are critical, and familiarity with C++ and COM are very beneficial. Exposure to image, video and/or audio processing technology is helpful. Good understanding of algorithms and data structures, and great communication and cross-group skills are essential. A BS/MS in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent, and 2+ years of engineering experience are required.
