Konami, the company behind Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear and the horror masterpiece Silent Hill, has pseudo-announced a new IP.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, European President of Konami Masami Saso hinted that the company is hard at work on a new video game.
With the developer/publisher currently succeeding through both mobile and pachinko titles, the once-great company hasn’t bothered with full-fledged console games as much as it used to. However, Konami’s future in the console industry won’t just be the annual eFootball PES title.
“Even with new platforms coming out, we believe high-end console games are the most important. We challenge for innovative ideas and technology within our console games and apply them to other devices, so we will continue to put effort into our console games,”Saso told GamesIndustry.biz. “We also plan to increase our portfolio. In addition to the multi-device titles for PES and Yu-Gi-Oh, we plan to work on projects with other globally known IPs in the near future.”
This generation has seen not only a quiet Konami, but also a despised one. With the company’s numerous unethical issues causing fans to hate them in the same way as, say, EA, the company has a lot of amends to make. However, who’s going to really care if the company just makes one cracking video game?
