Square Enix has pushed the release date for the next-gen Marvel’s Avengers update into next year.

Revealed through a blog post, Marvel’s Avengers developer Crystal Dynamics revealed that the free next-gen update for the superhero live service game will not be releasing day and date with the upcoming launches of Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5.

The upcoming next-gen upgrade has now been pushed into next year alongside the game’s first DLC character: Kate Bishop. All of this content is expected to arrive next year instead.

“Marvel’s Avengers’ launch was not without turbulence, and we recognize that a number of issues detracted from your enjoyment of the game. This does not align with Crystal Dynamics’ value of craftsmanship, and for that we sincerely apologize,” said Crystal Dynamics head Scot Amos.

“In our nearly 30-year history, Crystal Dynamics has never shipped a game under conditions like these; from working at home to avoid a pandemic, to some of us evacuating said homes to stay safe from wildfires. While the challenges 2020 has surfaced are many, it’s also instilled a strength in us; to reassemble a team divided by geography and life circumstances, and come back stronger, united by a mission to do right by you.”

To show appreciation to their launch supporters, players will now receive a digital Thank You bundle with the following gifts:

  • Credits: 1500 – Enough for a Legendary Skin and Nameplate from the Marketplace

  • Units: 7000

  • Upgrade Modules: 250

  • DNA Keys: 20

  • A Sarah Garza-Inspired Nameplate (Because seriously, you’re the best.)
