Marvell to Turn Loose 1GHz Processor for Mobile Devices

For all of you Qualcomm haters out there, it looks as though your prayers have been answered. Marvell has just announced a 1GHz PXA168 processor for mobile devices. What great news.

Everyone knows that at the present time, Marvell processors blow Qualcomm out of the water in terms of speed, power consumption, and just about every other category. Just take a look at the ASUS P565 benchmarking test. The results speak for themselves, and that’s with a mere 800MHz processor.

With this announcement, one can bet that the folks at QCT are now really scrambling to get their act together. Fierce competition such as this usually brings a better product to the end user. We can bet that in the long run, this will be the case.

This would definitely be a welcome addition on any future handsets for us power users. Imagine what your daily driver would be capable of with 1GHz of horsepower under the hood. Snappier OS response, much improved browsing experience, tremendous increase in flash support. Oh, the possibilities seem endless, not only for mobile phones, but also for portable media players, netbooks, etc…

We can only hope that Marvell puts this bad boy in a Windows Mobile device sooner, rather than later. WMpoweruser.com will definitely keep you abreast of any developments on this as they become available.
