The long-awaited WhatsApp for iPad is finally in development by Facebook. The native version (ie not based on Whatsapp Web) will finally offer all the features of the phone app on a large screen.

Uncovered by the reliable WABetaInfo, the app is currently only available in internal testing and is not available to anyone on the outside yet.

The app offers split-screen user interfaces in many places where it makes sense, such as the chat window (in the screenshot above) and settings, but at present still seems like a blown-up version of the phone app. See some screenshots from WABetaInfo below:

It is not clear how the app will deal with identity yet, something it usually does via the SIM in your phone, but the app may be a harbinging for the integration between WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram which Facebook has been promising for some time this year.
