Popular Windows Phone developer Morten Nielsen has posted the above video showing an app (running in the WP8.1 emulator) displaying a live GPS track while running as a lock screen replacement.
The demo uses the APIs which are still private to Microsoft and has not been released to all developers yet, so do not expect to see something like this soon, not to mention the massive battery drain it would cause, but it does show the potential for this new canvas for developers.
