Likely smashing the notion that all Windows Phone 8 handsets will be high-end devices with HD screens, Leap Wireless has announced at CTIA that they are in talks with Microsoft and an unnamed vendor to bring pre-paid Windows Phone 8 handsets to their network later this year or early next year.
Leap’s Matt Stoiber, senior vice president of the carrier’s devices business, said the carrier is in late-stage discussions with Microsoft and Windows Phone hardware suppliers about launching the smartphones on Leap’s network.
"It seems to be a stable platform," Stoiber said of Windows Phone 8.
He However cautioned that no final agreements have been signed, and the situation could change.
Leap does not offer any Windows Phones at present on its Cricket Brand, offering only Blackberry and Android handsets.
