Le Monde release their new app simultaneously on iOS, Android and Windows Phone

French publication Le Monde has just released a bevy of new mobile applications, including for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

The app is the culmination of a major project on which 25 people worked and attempts to address two diverging goals – offering the news in real time, but also providing deep background coverage.

The app now provides a Direct tab, which will offer real-time updates by editors around the world. A second tab called Headlines will make sure readers are up to date with essentials, while story streams will offer more detailed, curated and organized articles allowing readers to take a deep dive into the news.

The app is free to download, but requires a subscription for the personalized home page, full length articles and some content.image

The simultaneous release on iOS, Android and Windows Phone is a sign that, in Europe at least, the OS is increasingly being seen as a first class citizen, which should bode well for the future.

Download the app from the Windows Phone Store here.
