Kinecting beyond the Xbox

When Microsoft embarked on designing the next controller to compete with Nintendo Wii, I wonder if they ever imagined all the uses that the path they chose with Kinect would take them. In the video above, it is heart warming to see how the Kinect has found its way in the education field. The device takes the advantage of children’s tendency to learn better by movement and sounds/music rather than just sitting still and turns it into a pleasant educational experience. Not only are the kids gaining knowledge, they are also being exposed to technology that they would otherwise not have ever being able to access like one of the teachers says in the video.

Microsoft would be wise as they continue to develop Kinect, to create a new division dedicated to fostering more educational titles for uses such as shown in the Video. As someone who is in the process of learning German, it would be nice to see a language training program that I could use while relaxing in the comfort of my living room. There are more uses for the Kinect in other fields, but I am particularly interested in what will come out of the education field.

What kind of applications do you guys see the Kinect being used in the knowledge acquisition field?
