It takes a very special phone to run full desktop Fallout

But can it play Crysis? has been a long-running joke when it comes to new gadgets. I’m not sure this hacked Lumia 950 XL can manage that, but what WallsoGB has certainly managed is to get an old version of Fallout to play pretty well on his handset, which incidentally is also running Windows 10 on ARM.

The feat is managed by the x86 emulation built into Windows 10 on ARM, and likely help by recent advances in bringing this OS to Windows Phones, including enabling GPU support.

With Microsoft constantly adapting Windows 10 for different screen sizes and processors, one wonders if there would not be a niche market for a phone-sized Always Connected PC, exactly for those who want to play Crysis on a modern SoC…
