Intel announces Optane SSDs for mainstream PCs

Intel today announced the Optane SSD 800P, their newest addition to the Intel Optane technology family of products. The 800P is targeted towards enthusiasts and professional users who want better performing storage solutions than the old hard disk drives and SATA SSDs. Intel Optane SSDs deliver high throughput, low latency, high quality of service and great endurance.

Intel claims that Optane SSD 800P is ideal for use as a standalone SSD, in a dual drive setup or in a multiple SSD RAID configuration (PCH-based or CPU-based). It also supports lower-power states, allowing it to operate in devices like laptops and 2 in 1 devices, as well as desktop PCs. The 800P Optane SSD is available in 58GB and 118GB capacities in the M.2 2280 form factor using an NVMe PCIe 3.0 x2 interface.

Replacing your old HDD with Intel Optane SSD enables fast system boot, speedy application load times and smooth multitasking.
