Instagram will soon let you use Direct messaging on the web

Instagram Direct might be coming to the web app, according to tests spotted by Facebook watcher Jane Manchun Wong.

Facebook is currently running a test allowing users to send and receive Instagram DMs (Direct Messages) directly from the browser. While the firm has offered a web app for some years now, some features like DMs have remained locked away to the mobile apps.

While this test isn’t indicative of anything until Instagram announces an actual release, anything could happen. To illustrate, the firm has been testing a discrete direct messaging app without release for over a year now.

Progressive Web Apps have the potential to overcome native apps. With Instagram porting more native features to its PWA, it may soon become the preferred point of access for users who are conscious of their storage space and data usage.
