Instagram is now testing out a feature which allows users to control who can message them. Currently, any Instagram user can message any other account. This allows for a proliferation of spammers who add random people to group chats and invite them to dodgy spam websites.
Now, Facebook is working on a feature which would let you block people from messaging you if you don’t follow them. This allows the user control over who can reach out to them, and is a genuinely useful feature that should have been there from the start. The change was spotted by Instagram sleuth, Jane Manchum Wong this weekend.

It is unknown when this feature would eventually roll out, but one would hope sooner rather than later for the safety of our inboxes.
