Instagram redesigns its profiles to emphasize users over follower numbers

Instagram is looking at making a number of potential changes to the profile page that deemphasise the number of followers you have to a way of facilitating communication more easily. The firm took a step towards this week by deleting followers from accounts which used bots and fake followers to appear to be more popular than they really were.

“Over the next several weeks, you may see features re-arranged at the top of your profile including changes to icons, buttons and the way you navigate between tabs, which we hope will make profiles easier and cleaner to use. The photos and videos you’ve shared on your grid won’t change.” Instagram said today

The firm is testing different layouts — not necessarily representative of a final product. Instead, Instagram will tweak them in response to community feedback over the next several weeks.

We already know the end results. However, profile images will be bigger, the names will be larger, promotes to follow and message will be highlighted, and follower numbers will be relegated to the small print of your profile, where they belong.
