Instagram adds support for GIF stickers in stories

Instagram today announced the support for GIF stickers in stories. Users can use the GIF stickers in their photos and videos when posting to their story. Instagram team has partnered with the world’s leading GIF content provider GIPHY to provide hundreds of thousands of moving stickers to its users.

Here’s how it works:

  • Tap add a sticker to a photo or video in stories, you’ll see the new GIF option.
  • Tap it to open the library of GIFs from GIPHY.
  • You can browse what’s currently trending on GIPHY or search their extensive collection to find a sticker for just about anything.
  • Tap the sticker to select it and add it to your story.

GIF stickers are available today as part of Instagram version 29 update on both iOS and Android.

In addition to the GIF support, Instagram team announced another major update. In the coming weeks, they are going to add the ability to upload photos and videos of any size to Instagram stories. So you don’t need to crop important parts of your photo to fit Instagram’s upload size. When you upload a photo or video, you can pinch to share it in its original dimensions, whether it’s  portrait or landscape. Instagram will fill the empty space with a custom color gradient that matches the content you have shared.
